Father Jack
From services on a sailboat ... to a condo ... and finally into a traditional Mexican palapa, Christ Church by the Sea has grown and grown, thanks to Father Jack, The Reverend John M. Wehrs, Sr.
A midwesterner, born in Chicago, with ten years in Minnesota, Father Jack moved to San Diego in 1968. But, he wasn't a priest yet. After a successful career in finance, real estate, building and development, Father Jack entered seminary at age 45.
After serving ten parishes in northern and southern California, Father Jack retired from the San Diego diocese in 2000, when he and his wife Shirley sailed to Puerto Vallarta. Recognizing a need for an English speaking service in the area, he began holding services on his sailboat.
In addition to providing English services, using the Anglican traditions, Father Jack has determined that the parish will serve the poor and the needy in the neighborhood of Iglesia Cristo Del Mar - Christ Church by the Sea.
