Greetings in the Love and Joy of Christ!
We now enter a new year for the church. Advent begins our time of thoughtful preparation to celebrate the birth of Jesus, the human incarnation of the Word through whom all things were created. It is the pinnacle of God’s continuing entry into our lives.
Our culture invites us to an orgy of buying and indulgence which has little relationship to the life of self-giving sacrificial love, shown in the life of Christ. Here is a perfect opportunity to stand with God in resistance to the idolatry of empire and consumption. Give to those who cannot give back.
Our church exists because you support it with both substantial amounts of volunteer time and generous financial pledges. Puerto Vallarta and the entire Banderas Bay region are home to enormous social and economic disparity, with many people living in grinding poverty. Our ability to respond to these needs by way of Christ Church by the Sea is completely dependent on your compassion and generosity.
The budget proposal for next year is available for downloading here. If you have any questions please ask me or Dana. Please forward to Dana your plans for supporting the parish expenses at firstname.lastname@example.org.It is critical for us in our planning to know what resources will be. Wherever you are, your pledge for 2023 will help guide us in the coming months.
I am sorry to announce that Martin has decided that he is unable to continue his training for ordination. We have decided therefore to wait until we have our resources in order before we begin Spanish services. So when Bishop Ricardo is with us December 11, we will only have one service at 10 am.
In the meantime, since we have no other clergy available to cover when I am away, Dana Faris has agreed to be reinstalled as a lay Eucharistic Minister and offer a communion service on occasion.
We will be doing a series of six bible study sessions through Advent and Christmas on Wednesdays at 11:00. If you are in town during that time please join us. Each study will be independent, so you can take part in one or two if that is the only time you’re available. If you are here on vacation and would like to visit the school or the food bank, please let me know.
Our Christmas services will be on Christmas Eve at 5:30 beginning with caroling, and on Christmas Day at our regular Sunday time of 10 am.
May God richly bless you as you make your plans for Christmas and your visit with us here at Christ Church by the Sea.
